Education

Camerata San Antonio’s activities as music educators cover the spectrum from introducing young children to the classical music to training the most advanced local string students in the art of string quartet playing. Our entire 2025-2026 education program is made possible by a generous grant from the San Antonio Symphony League.

Annual String Quartet Master Class

Every spring, Camerata San Antonio offers a free master class for area high school students. Existing student groups, usually preparing to compete at the state UIL solo and ensemble competition, are invited to perform and receive feedback from the Camerata San Antonio String Quartet. When scheduling logistics allow, one group from each class is invited to open our final concert of the season each year, offering these students a valuable performance experience. In-school Concerts

After suspending in-school concerts due to COVID in 2020, Camerata shifted its in-school concert focus to perform for and interact with high school orchestra students, taking the Camerata San Antonio concert experience straight to their schools. This highly targeted specific approach is uniquely impactful and fills an otherwise unmet need in the community. The intimate nature of these concerts is a feature of the program that creates deep connections.

These concerts also provide a unique and valuable opportunity for students to pose questions to our performers, providing a chance to satisfy their curiosity about the works performed, the performers, and the process of preparation.

Of our performance at Brandeis High School in 2024, Orchestra Director Kevin Garcia-Hettinger shared: “…seeing and hearing this performance in such a meaningful and artistic way was really impactful. The musicians were so easy to work with and the fact that they came out to the school and set up times around our class schedule was great. …Their performance had such a huge impact on my orchestra program!”

Students Attend FREE!

Free student tickets remove barriers to attendance at our regular concerts. While visiting students in their environment is undeniably important, the entire concert experience is equally important to the development of student musicians and wellrounded human beings.

Of her orchestra’s visit to our 24-25 season opening concert at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, Health Careers High School Orchestra Director Kathleen Boyd shared,

“Our field trip to the Camerata San Antonio concert was wonderful and so impactful for my students. It was an easy, stress free trip to arrange thanks to the student tickets being completely free. The kids were engaged the whole time and talked about it for days afterward. We are so lucky to have access to high quality chamber music in our community, and I want all my students to benefit from this type of concert experience.”
